Women’s Sailing Team Conquers All
Our Lady Seahawks Sailing Team was ranked number one in the nation after the SMCM women’s sailing team won the Atlantic Coast Championship, the biggest fall sailing event for female college sailors. Following this race, Sailing World magazine ranked the lady Seahawks number one, after they keep winning against schools such as Yale, Harvard, Georgetown, and the U.S. Naval Academy. The St. Mary’s Women’s Sailing team deserves their new ranking, after winning the 17-college championship in November at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The St. Mary’s team defeated the second-placed Yale University team by a six-point margin.

St. Mary’s Hosts Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast
Actions and words were recognized on Monday January 15, 2007 at the third annual Southern Maryland Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast, hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM). Lt. Governor-Elect Anthony Brown was the keynote speaker. Brown discussed “How are we doing, Dr. King?—America’s failure to achieve economic opportunity and social equality for all.”

St. Mary’s Grads Make a Difference in the Peace Corps
St. Mary’s College of Maryland was recently ranked 18th in the small college and university category of the annual Peace Corps Top Colleges and Universities Rankings. The annual Peace Corps rankings recognize the colleges and universities that produced the most Peace Corps volunteers in 2006. St. Mary’s made the list with 17 volunteers serving in the Peace Corps in 2006.
