Be Ready for Anything!

Forget sitting anonymously in the back of the classroom, on the sidelines, or alone in the Great Room... unless you want to, that is. St. Mary's is a burgeoning campus of activity, learning, and fun. With our Sports and Recreation program, including NCAA Division III, club level and intramural coed sports, you can pick a team and cheer them on to victory or score the winning goal. If sports aren't your interest, that's ok – choose from one of our 70+ student-run clubs that include every interest from ultimate frisbee to the Black Student Union to physics. Be challenged academically with small student to faculty ratios and plenty of opportunities inside and outside of the classroom to interact with fellow students and professors.

Be Yourself

Be Yourself

St. Mary's is multicultural, multitalented, and multitasking ... of diverse races, ethnicities, backgrounds and worldviews. More importantly, you'll find diverse students hanging out together, eating meals together, working together, living together and challenging the limits and each other. We are students from 30 countries and a faculty that speaks over 20 languages. Because diversity of thought simply brings us together. Across disciplines. Across cultures. Across the world.

A unique aspect of St. Mary's culture is the influence of the river. Our campus is located on 319 acres and sits on a horseshoe bend of the St. Mary's River just upstream from the confluence of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. You just can't help being affected. It is no wonder we have earned 12 National Sailing Championships. You don't have to be an expert, the waterfront is open to recreational and novice sailors alike. It's all about the water. Once you see the St. Mary's River, you'll know you have arrived at a college like no other.

Be History

Be History

The birthplace of religious freedom in Maryland is practically on campus, complete with living-history museums and archeological digs (the nation's oldest field archeology site). The first English settlers arrived here by boat (they landed within sight of the college's present boat dock) and founded the fourth oldest permanent English colony in North America. St. Mary's City became an early site of religious freedom in the New World, and toleration remains an abiding precept of life at the college.
